On 27th and 28th Feb. 2023 a 'Workshop on Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovation Design” was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering from 09:30 AM to 04.30 PM both the days. The resource person was, Dr. R. Prem Ananth, IIC Convener, IIC Innovation Ambassador for "Design Thinking & Innovations", Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, Francis Xavier Engineering College. 57 students from second year CSE department and one faculty member participated in the program. The session was coordinated by Mrs.M.Bagya Lakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College.

The resource person explained the concept of Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovation Thinking. He said that design thinking is a strategy for creative problem solving by prioritizing customer’s requirements. Moreover, it helps to engage a person in several opportunities like experimenting and creating a prototype model, gathering feedback from customers and redesigning the product using innovative solutions. He also explained the five major steps involved in design thinking such as Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. While explaining each stage of design thinking, the resource person gave lot of live examples to make the concept understand by the participants. The speaker also explained about innovation process and the classification of innovation and gave the example from real time industrial applications. The participants raised few questions regarding the design thinking process and the interaction between the participants and the resource person was encouraging.

On the second day the resource person divided the students in to 19 batches and gave a problem statement to all each of the team and asked the students to work on the concept of Design thinking. The teams were requested to prepare a chart on the five steps of design thinking namely Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test and made them to present the same by each of the team members. Students were given enough time to have discussion on the problem statement among the members and to prepare the chart using the guidelines given by the resource person. Participants had very good interaction among the team members enthusiastically. Few participants clarified their doubts with the resource person. After the preparation all the team members presented their design thinking chart. During the presentation resource person raised few questions and the participants answered all the queries rained by the resource person. In fact, this exercise gave very good exposure to the participated team members and learned lot of things on the design thinking concept. During the presentation the other team members were also raised questions and it generated a good discussion among the participants.
