On 24.08.2023 a seminar on "Innovation and IPR" was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The session was handled by Dr.E.Manohar, Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli from 01.30 PM - 4.00 PM. 50 students and 2 faculties participated. This event was coordinated by M.Mariammal AP/CSE. This event was conducted with the guidance of Dr.Lourdes Poobala Rayen, EDC Director.
The program started with the welcome address by M.Mariammal, Francis Xavier Engineering College. The resource person explained the concept of IPR and its different types such as copyrights, patents, trademark, Geographical indication, designs etc. The speaker said the main purpose of intellectual property law is to protect the owner’s rights in the intellectual property.
Copyright: The Speaker said copyright is a legal term describing rights given to the creators on their literary and artistic works.
Patent: It enables an inventor to prohibit another person from manufacturing, using or selling the patented product or from using the patented process, without permission. The time period of patent is about 20 years.
Trademark: The trademark is a distinctive sign which identifies certain goods or services as those produced or provided by a specific person or enterprise.
The resource person explained the procedures involved in the patent filing and he showed the documents given by the patent office regarding the filling of patent. The resource person requested the participants to develop innovative products and file patent to protect the rights of the owner. The session was an interactive one and all the participants were benefitted by the program. Finally the participants gave their feedback about the session.
