On 30th September, 2022 a Guest Talk on “Protecting Innovation Through IPR” was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Business Studies in association with Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Institution’s Innovation Council from 1:30 pm.to 4.00 p.m. Dr. E. Manohar of Francis Xavier Engineering College, Vannarpettai was the resource person and the program was coordinated by Dr. T. Manimozhi, EDC Co-Coordinator & Professor Mathematics of CSBS Department. 63 students and 1 staff member participated in the program.
The resource person explained the process of innovation and the purpose of protecting the same to avoid unauthorized use of the innovation by the third party. He listed the different types of Intellectual Property rights namely patents, copy rights, trade marks, designs and trade secrets. He gave few examples also for each type. He said that once the innovation is properly registered it gives protection to the innovator and restricts the use of the registered innovation by others. The IPR gives legal protection against the use of the registered IPR.
