On 14.05.2024 a Guest Lecture on "Freelancing :A Startup Business Opportunities” was conducted by Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IIC in association with the Department of Master of Computer Application. The session was handled by Mr. F. RichardSingh Samuel, Assistant Professor of Francis Xavier Engineering College at 1.30 PM – 3.30 PM. 50 students and 1 faculty participated. This event was coordinated by Mrs.M.K.Subbulakshmi AP/MC6A. This event was conducted with the guidance of Dr. Lourdes Poobala Rayen, EDC Director.

The event began with a friendly greeting from Mrs. D. Angeline Ranjithamani, Head of the department of MCA at Francis Xavier Engineering College. In her introduction, she pointed out the key focuses of the event: business innovation, new businesses, and fostering imaginative thinking. The speaker began by explaining what freelancing is. It is when people work independently, offering their skills and services to different clients without being tied to a single employer. This type of work can be done from anywhere, which makes it very flexible. Many freelancers work from home or while traveling. He talked about why freelancing is a good way to start a business. It requires very little initial investment. Unlike traditional businesses that may need a lot of money for rent, inventory, or staff, a freelancer usually needs just a computer and an internet connection. This low cost makes it easier for many people to start.

The guest lecture mentioned the variety of work available. Freelancers can offer many types of services such as writing, graphic design, web development, marketing, and even consulting. This wide range means that many people can find something that matches their skills and interests. He says that networking is very important in freelancing. I emphasized how building connections can lead to more job opportunities. I suggested using social media and online platforms to connect with potential clients. Websites like Upwork, Fiverr, and LinkedIn are very useful for finding work and building a professional network.
